It is through him that we are able to live, to do what we do, and to be who we are. As your own poets have said, ‘We all come from him.’ - Acts 17:28 (ERV)
THE P.V.C.Y.M. INC. BEGINNINGS,
And how we are funded, etc.
(short version, believe it or not!)
This was an answer I gave to someone who asked me a question on Facebook about what we are doing, why, and how we are funded . It got me to thinking that some others might be curious too, so here you go!
I edited it just a bit...
My husband and I have been working with the youth in our area, mostly outside of the churches (not from within one certain church) officially since around 2009 when we got our non-profit status.
Before that, we were doing Children's Church, etc. within the church we were attending, in Rosedale, where we were living, and eventually helping out with a Christian music venue (THE UNDERGROUND) for the teens.
My husband and Brandon (now a local youth pastor) started a community youth group in Rosedale and then it began to meet in Clinton. I started a Kid's Club that became a part of the ministry that we had been doing at least 11 years and was ongoing until the last couple of years when family obligations, the loss of our craft lady who could no longer work with us on it, and now Covid - 19. The Kid's Club met at one of our local Elementary Schools. We also started hosting other events for the local teens in the community, started helping out at a Christian Youth Camp each year (Camp JeKeNSa) and began a non-official ministry called Parke-Vermillion Christian Youth Ministries. That unofficial organization eventually became (big change here!)
Parke-Vermillion Christian Youth Mission, Inc. as we became a 501 (c)(3) non-profit public charity in 2009.
Basically the whole thing started with God putting thoughts in both my mind and in my husband's and eventually with us feeling like there was a need to do something non-denominational, and that both the "churched" and "unchurched" kids would want to attend. Nobody has to believe as we do to use the Youth Center. We want to show God's love to ALL. It's kind of a long story, but after awhile, our dream was to end up with a building of our own to open up to the kids of the community as a safe place to hang out and meet friends. We finally were able to buy it about 3 years ago. A miracle really, as we've always struggled financially to keep up personally, and in ministry! To God be the glory!!! If He wants something done and you are willing, He makes a way.
We have received a couple of small grants since we have obtained the building but we are not a big enough organization for people to want to give large grants to, it seems. We are a very small operation and it's mainly James (my husband) and I trying to do everything - but again, people jump in here and there and help out or we'd be in trouble!!! This is God's thing, and as long as we remember that and listen to Him for guidance, it will be what it's supposed to be. That's pretty much our story in a nut shell! Thanks for reading.

Mission Statement:
Our mission is to reach out to the kids of Parke and Vermillion counties who do not attend church, and to those who do. They all deserve to know about God's love for them, Salvation, and how to continue on with their relationship with Jesus.
We are here to show kids we care
and that someone believes in them. We want them to know they are worth our time. We want to provide activities with a Christian influence and in a Godly environment.
We are not a church, and do not want to take anyone out of their own church and its' activities. We have seen a great lack of activities for the kids in many of the small churches. We have also seen a lack of interest in reaching out to kids who do not attend church anywhere. We want to provide activities that all of these kids can attend, and feel comfortable attending. Through these activities We want to teach them basic principles of a biblical lifestyle, and how to study and use the Bible to solve daily problems. We want them to know that it is possible for Christians to have fun too! We want them to have hope for their futures - because there is hope through Jesus

Statement of Faith:
We believe that the Bible consisting of Old and New Testaments only, is the infallible and authoritative Word of God. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, and his virgin birth, in His sinless life, in his miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, and his bodily resurrection, and in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return to power and glory. We believe that salvation consists in the remission of sins, the imputation of Christ*s righteousness, and the gift of eternal life received by faith alone, apart from works. We believe that if a person is saved, they will be resurrected unto eternal life, and persons unsaved unto eternal damnation. We believe that the church, the body of Christ, consists only of those that have accepted Him as their personal Savior. We believe that Christ will one day return as our King, and we as believers will live with Him eternally. We believe that Christ instructed the church to go into the entire world and preach the gospel to every person, baptizing and teaching those who believe.
*Please know that during our open hours, and events that we host,
pictures and video will most likely be taken, and very possibly shared on social media, our website or even on flyers and brochures for P.V.C.Y.M. INC..
If we were to find something distasteful or inappropriate in a picture or video we take, we obviously will not post that. We will be mindful and respectful to all when choosing what we post, and we will not tag a minor in a post or put their name with it - we will allow them to tag themselves or for a parent to do that. There is no way for us to individually ask permission each time, with different people coming and going every day, and event - so please, if you have a problem with this, do not allow your child to come to the Youth Center or to any of our events. We will post signs up in the Youth Center to warn/remind people that pics/videos may be taken and shared. Thank you!
